If you follow anyone in the spiritual community, you'll have noticed they always cleanse their tools and space before performing any ritual. This act, rids their space of energies that no longer serve.

Why is an energy cleanse important?

We, as humans ebb & flow, but objects & spaces don't. They absorb energies, debris can be left behind. That's why you sometimes feel the vibe in a room, office or even city! The environment takes on the dominate energy.

Imagine, the last time you did a reading you where feeling anxious. The cards picked up on that & that energy was absorbed at the time. By not clearing the cards, the anxiety can filter through onto the next reading. But, by having a nice cleansed space, free of any murky, stagnant energy. You help to dust aways those cobwebs, doing so can lead to clearer and more accurate tarot reading.

How preform a cleanse:

There are so many ways to do this, it comes down to personal preference.

Most importantly it needs to resonate with you!

Sage

Light some white sage & smudge your tarot cards individually. Feeling extra? Smudge your space, focus on areas around doors & window frames to clear any old energy that's entered or left your home.

Ensure windows are open so the old energy can be carried out by the smoke.

Crystal

Crystals are really powerful tools. When it comes to cleansing they can absorb old energies. It's a good idea to get a crystal that protects your tarot deck, this can absorbed negativity ensuring your cards are fresh for the next reading. Calming Cosmos have a great resource on which crystals help.

Moonlight

If you know anything about crystals, you know that moonlight helps to recharge these magical tools. When it comes to tarot cards, the moon cleanses them. You don't have to wait for the full moon, but on the night the full moon hits, pop your cards & crystals out on a windowsill where they can recharge & cleanse.

How often should I cleanse my tarot deck?

If you perform reading for yourself, you don't need it as frequently as you would when reading for others.

If it's been a while since you last did a reading. It's a good idea to cleanse.

The big one is If the cards being pulled don't resonate. That again goes back to what I was saying earlier about energy getting stuck or trapped in the tarot cards. Believe me, this can happen more often than you realise.
